JARED WHIPPY ANNOUNCED AS NEW HEAD COACH

Student Wellness recently announced the appointment of Jared Whippy as the new head coach for the extramural women’s rugby team. Whippy, who replaced Tom Waqa, began his tenure on November 26.

Whippy graduated from BYU in 2018 with a degree in sociology and has a strong rugby background. He played at both the collegiate (BYU) and (Utah Warriors and Seattle Seawolves) professional level.

“Jared will be a great asset to the university because of his humility, dedication to team principles and willingness to serve students,” said Emily Andrews, Student Wellness & Extramural Coordinator.

Waqa was the original head coach for the extramural women’s rugby team, a position he held since 2015. During that time, he led the team to two Division 1 National Championships (2019, 2022) a national runner-up (2016) and numerous conference titles. He announced his resignation in October.
