BYU wins PDRC season opener.

Phoenix, AZ — BYU took its winning run over PDRC rugby rival Grand Canyon University on Saturday January 22, 2022.

Phoenix, AZ — BYU took its winning run over PDRC rugby rival Grand Canyon University (GCU) to four games in a 109-0 victory, an unanswered 17 try run reflecting the visiting team’s strengths on both sides of the ball at Grand Canyon University Stadium on Saturday January 22, 2022.

GCU could not get on the scoreboard as BYU's defensive units kept the Lopes' away from their try line for the duration of the game. Half time score was 71-0.

Coming off a mixed Fall 2021 where BYU squared off with three of Women's Rugby D1-Elite powerhouses in Central Washington, Lindenwood & Life University, it was a different story back then when BYU found itself on the wrong side of the ball on two of those encounters. BYU overcame CWU in Fall 2021, but lost to Life & Lindenwood.

The Cougars will certainly be learning from these experiences as they try to get a run for the playoffs in April & May 2022.

Head Coach Tom Waqa was quick to bring the mindset back to ground level and commented, "It's really easy to get carried away by such a win. We've been working hard on taking care of our bodies, and building on key principles and our team culture. We have to stay humble and keep improving day by day."

BYU will take on UC Santa Barbara next on Saturday Feb 5, 2022 here at home in Provo on BYU West Campus Field (Old Provo High School). Kickoff is set for 11:00am MST.
