TWO WINS IN IDAHO

Fresh off their road wins over Madison SC and Boise State, BYU is preparing for its return to South Field against Utah State on Friday, October 4.

The Cougars scored eight goals and conceded one during the team’s Idaho road trip. The game against Madison SC (affiliated with BYU—Idaho) was contested on a playing surface less suitable to the Cougars’ possession-heavy approach, while the Boise State game was a contentious affair that tested the Cougars’ grit and tempo.

Standout players from the weekend trip included Caleb Meyer, Mitch Fisher and Ben Fankhauser, all who played major roles in their own capacities. Meyer and Fisher came off the bench and could not be handled by Madison SC, and Fankhauser capped off his strong weekend performance with a scorching shot into the upper 90 against Boise State.

With 17 goals scored and just two conceded in its first four games, BYU has found its stride and is looking to maintain that momentum against in its penultimate league home game against its Logan-based rivals. The Cougars have so far benefited by having a plethora of options down both the right and left wings and will surely need to maintain that versatility as the most crucial part of the season approaches.

Tomorrow’s match against Utah State will kickoff at 7:00 pm at South Field. Tickets can be purchased at https://eventtickets.byu.edu/?view=page&i=byu-men-39-s-soccer-2019POBdR7. The game will also be streamed live on YouTube (search “BYU Men’s Soccer) and hosted by the dynamic commentary duo of Jacob Buhler and Grant Drivas.
