BYU DOMINATES WEBER STATE WILDCATS

2/22/2020

OGDEN, UTAH - The Cougars came out on fire and defeated the Weber State Wildcats 74-0 at Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore prop, Spencer Ika, described the team’s mindset going into the game, “We played with a chip on our shoulder like we needed to prove something to ourselves.” The Cougars definitely proved their ability to score, putting up 47 points in the first half alone.

Freshman, Gabriel Mahuniga helped set the tone for the team with strong runs in the middle of the field which created space for the backs. BYU’s newest wing, Brittain Hale, wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and scored 2 tries within 10 minutes in his BYU rugby debut.

The Cougars defensive pressure was also a force to be reckoned as they continually caused Weber State to lose possession.

Overall, the Cougars controlled the game offensively and defensively and worked together as a team to win.

Senior A.J. Lolohea said after the game “You could tell that both teams came to play by how physical the game started, which always makes the game fun.”

Up Next: The Cougars will take on Saint Mary’s on March 13th and 14th in Provo, Utah.
